Failed coup plot adds to mounting pressures in Mali

The ruling junta of Mali came into power through a coup in 2021, four years down the line they face the same very threat.

As reported in Maghrebi Week, the early hours of August 10^th saw around two dozen soldiers arrested in connection to an alleged coup plot. Among the arrests was high-ranking General Abass Dembele, an ex-governor of the Mopti region.

A Malian security source said: “Since three days ago, there have been arrests linked to an attempt to destabilise the institutions. There have been at least 20 arrests.”
