Failed coup plot adds to mounting pressures in Mali

The ruling junta of Mali came into power through a coup in 2021, four years down the line they face the same very threat.
As reported in Maghrebi Week, the early hours of August 10th saw around two dozen soldiers arrested in connection to an alleged coup plot. Among the arrests was high-ranking General Abass Dembele, an ex-governor of the Mopti region.
A Malian security source said: “Since three days ago, there have been arrests linked to an attempt to destabilise the institutions. There have been at least 20 arrests.”
