Egypt denies proposing that Hamas hands over weapons to Cairo

Egypt had denied claims in the Israeli media that Cairo has proposed a plan for Hamas to give Egypt its weapons as a short-term “open-ended deposit,” forming part of the plan for Gaza’s future, according to the Middle East Monitor on August 20th.
On August 19th Egyptian sources stated that there was no plan for the transfer of weapons and the proposal from Egypt and Qatar accepted by Hamas includes a 60-day ceasefire.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, stated on August 19th that “the ball is now in Israel’s court,” regarding ceasefire talks.
