A famine that is completely “man-made” is happening in Gaza City as conditions worsen in conflict-hit Gaza, according to UN-backed experts, The Guardian via Reuters reported on August 22nd.

The internationally-recognised Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), an organisation that ranks levels of food insecurity and malnourishment, found that three key starting points for famine had been reached.

The IPC has only declared four famines since it was set up in 2004, with the latest being in Sudan in 2024. The findings indicate that the humanitarian conditions in Gaza have significantly worsened.
