Over 20,000 from northeast Syria camps repatriated to Iraq

A total of 25,000 Iraqis from northeast Syria’s al-Hol and al-Roj camps have been repatriated, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), The New Arab reported on August 16th.
CENTCOM said in a statement released on August 15th that the repatriation highlights “their commitment to the sustained defeat of [Islamic State] ISIS”.
The statement also said that Iraq had heightened the amount of its citizens returned from the two camps by 165% “year-over year.” The displacement of Iraqis came in the wake of Iraq’s conflict with ISIS, which started with the group seizing extensive areas of the country.
