Algeria supports Sahrawi right to autonomy
Share

Algerian support for Sahrawi independence is based primarily on the belief that all peoples have the right to self-determination, as covered by Maghrebi Week on August 25th.

Western Sahara, the ancestral lands of the Sahrawi people, was a Spanish colony until 1975, and has since been claimed by both Morocco and the Polisario Front amid regional tensions and strategic interests.

Algeria supports the Front’s movement for independence despite rising international isolation, citing anti-colonialism and a right to self-determination as key reasons behind its support.
