Global leaders and journalist groups reacted to an Israeli strike on August 25th that caused at least 20 deaths, including the deaths of five journalists who worked for Reuters, AP, Al Jazeera and other new organisations, according to Al-Monitor via Reuters.

The strike, attacked Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which is located in Southern Gaza.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has strongly condemned the Israeli airstrike that killed the journalists, urging the global community to hold Israel responsible for its actions, emphasising the need to protect journalists working in conflict zones.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, which has extensively commented on abuses against journalists committed by Israel, also commented on the airstrike, stating that “The Syndicate affirmed that this heinous crime represents a dangerous escalation in the direct and deliberate targeting of Palestinian journalists.”

It added: “It confirms without a shadow of a doubt that the occupation is waging an open war on free media, with the aim of terrorising journalists and preventing them from carrying out their professional mission of exposing its crimes to the world.”

Other political leaders, including US President Trump and the UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric also commented on the airstrike, with the UN secretary-general denouncing the attack. Dujarric stated that “these latest horrific killings highlight the extreme risks that medical personnel and journalists face as they carry out their vital work during this conflict.”

Trump, a key ally of Israel throughout the conflict, stated: “We have to end that whole nightmare.”
