Iran: women’s rights activist sentenced to three years in jail

The Iranian women’s rights activist Hasti Amiri was sentenced to three years in prison by a Tehran court, as reported by Maghrebi Week on September 1st.
In a post on social media, Amiri announced that she had been sentenced to two years in prison for “spreading falsehoods”. Amiri also received fines and another year in prison for charges related to “propaganda against the state”.
Iran has seen a forceful crackdown on those advocating for women’s rights. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) revealed that the Iranian authorities arrested at least 644 women for improper veiling in 2024 alone.
