Syria: ministry members detained over suspected civilian abuse

Members of Syria’s defence and interior ministries suspected of carrying out abuses on civilians in Suweida province have been questioned and detained, The New Arab via Reuters reported on September 3rd.
In the province, hundreds died as a result of clashes that started between tribes and Druze groups. The violence was exacerbated by the deployment of Syria’s troops in the area.
The spokesperson for the committee investigating the violence, Ammar Izzedin, said on September 2nd that members of both ministries have been referred to the judiciary due to their alleged involvement in the abuses.
