UN peacekeeping across Africa threatened by US cuts

US President Donald Trump has cut $4.9 billion in foreign aid, putting financial strain upon United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), reports AfricaNews on September the 4th.
The Trump administration has cut more than $800 million dedicated to international peacekeeping efforts – inflicting further damage upon Africa. Already, the cuts in US aid have taken a toll across Africa – efforts to prevent the spread of Malaria have been hampered by the reduction in resources that has followed aid cuts by the US.
There are 11 active UN peacekeeping missions – the ones throughout Africa include: UNMISS in South Sudan, MONUSCO in the DRC and MINUSCA in the Central African Republic.
