Activist says Iran is using execution as a tool of intimidation

An Iranian activist has slammed Iran for using execution as a political tool of intimidation, Maghrebi Week reported on September 1st.

“When simply opposing the death penalty is considered propaganda against the state, then execution itself is a political tool of intimidation,” Hasti Amiri, a women’s rights activist and law graduate, said.

But Amiri also said there is the hope that Iranians will one day “burn all the gallows and execution scaffolds.” Amiri is just one of many people who have faced legal repercussions over involvement in women’s rights movements.
