UNIFIL condemns Israeli drone attack amid drawdown plans

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) condemned an Israeli attack on its peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, calling it “one of the most serious” attacks on peacekeepers, since the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire of November, as reported by Maghrebi Week on September 8.
Four grenades were dropped near personnel clearing roadblocks, prompting a suspension of operations. The attack violates UN Resolution 1701 and international law, UNIFIL said.
The incident comes as the Security Council has mandated UNIFIL’s phased withdrawal, with the Lebanese Armed Forces set to assume security duties.
