Israel has classified at least 4,500 Palestinian civilians who were taken away from Gaza by Israeli forces as “unlawful” fighters, according to Middle East Eye via The Guardian on September 4th.

A quarter of Palestinians detained since the war on Gaza started in October 2023, which were labelled as “unlawful” fighters were indeed combatants, The Guardian reported on September 4th, referring to secret Israeli military data.

Under the “unlawful combatant” legislation, the rest had been held arbitrarily. Journalists, doctors, civil servants, teachers, children as well as the sick and those with disabilities were among these people.
