An Israeli-Russian researcher has been freed after allegedly facing ongoing torture from her Iraqi militia kidnappers, according to US President Donald Trump, the BBC reported on September 9th.

Trump said on Truth Social: “I am pleased to report that Elizabeth Tsurkov, a Princeton student, whose sister is an American citizen, was just released by Kataib Hezbollah, and is now safely in the American embassy in Iraq.”

Not too long afterwards, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the prime minister of Iraq, confirmed that Tsurkov, who went missing during a research trip in March 2023 in Iraq, has now been freed.
