Libyan MPs call for prime minister to step down

On September 1st, 40 members of Libya’s House of Representatives called for UN-backed Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah to resign, accusing him of undermining the political transition since his 2021 appointment, as reported by Maghrebi Week on September 8.
The MPs claim his leadership is no longer acceptable, citing corruption, division, and failed elections. Opposition to Dbeibah has grown among military factions, municipal councils, and civil society groups, particularly in western Libya.
Rising tensions in Tripoli have seen armed mobilizations, prompting Dbeibah to increase security. The UN mission in Libya is mediating to prevent escalation and safeguard the fragile transition.
