On September 15, the Algerian President reaffirmed the nation’s solidarity and support to the State of Qatar, following the bombing of Doha by Israeli forces on September 9th, as reported by AL24 News on September 16.

During the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf delivered a message on behalf of the Algerian President, underscoring the need for the Arab and Islamic world to stand united against Israeli aggression.

As President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said, the Israeli offensive constitutes “an assault on their security and stability, a violation of their sanctity and rights, and an affront to all the values and principles they uphold—values shared by all of humanity.”

“The gravity of the current situation in the Middle East far exceeds what any specific words or expressions can fully capture. There is no doubt that we are facing a critical and decisive historical phase—a phase in which accurately identifying the dangers and threats before us is not beyond reach,” he continued.

The Algerian President also highlighted that Israeli aggression is not limited to Palestine and the extermination of the people in Gaza, where the death toll is rising sharply, reaching 64700 deaths and at least 163,859 injured. Rather, the President cited attacks on Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, and now Qatar, emphasizing that Israel is on an imperial path to expand its borders and create a “Greater Israel.”

He also called for the Arab world to be aligned with the international community and push for “deterrence and punishment for those who consider themselves exceptions to all rules, laws, and regulations that others abide by.”

President Tebboune said, adding, “Let our decisions be aligned with this context, and let us move forward united and in a single front to translate the growing international awareness into firm measures to curb the arrogance of the occupier, to do justice to the countries and peoples of the region, and to expedite addressing the core and essence of the entire conflict.”

Despite President Tebboune’s staunch stance, Atalayar reports that “Algeria ranks fourth, after the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Egypt” when it comes to exports to Israel, raising questions about the extent to which a country holding trade and economic relations with Israel can demand from the international community to sanction and boycott the country.

This duality in Algeria’s stance is largely due to its economy’s dependence on the sale of hydrocarbons and chemicals, something that the country is taking steps toward changing by diversifying its economy.
