Mali suffers from fuel shortages amid jihadist disruptions

After Islamist militant group JNIM imposed a fuel blockade on key regions in Mali, some areas of the country have experienced a spike fuel price due to a “drastic drop” in available energy.
According to RFI, General Daouda Dembele, governor of the Mopti region, announced on September 21st that there has been an alarming escalation in fuel prices- he claims there has been “a drastic drop in the quantities of gasoline and diesel available at service stations and authorised sellers,” and citizens of Mopti have noted the disruption has caused many vehicle-dependent business to have shut down, and those that continue to operate have increased their prices.
JNIM have been halting fuel truck movements across the country, even releasing videos of militants shooting tanker trucks until they set fire. As the fuel blockade continues, civilians in Mali seem to bear the brunt.
