The militia force Special Deterrence Forces have agreed a security deal with the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) as reported in Maghrebi Week.

Primarily, the deal involves the withdrawal of Special Deterrence Forces from their key strategic position at Mitiga airport, and military forces have been withdrawn from the capital of Tripoli.

Militia violence has become entrenched in Libyan society, and external parties relieved with the security deal include the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, who seek to implement a political roadmap ensuring national democracy and stability.
