Israel: minister says settlement plan is “Zionism at its best”

Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich has said that the E1 settlement plan, which would significantly expand settlements in the occupied West Bank is “Zionism at its best,” as covered by Maghrebi Week on September 22nd.

Smotrich also described the plan as a strategy which will build, settle and strengthen “sovereignty in the Land of Israel.”

Under international law, an occupying power is prohibited from constructing settlements. At present, Smotrich faces an International Criminal Court arrest warrant application over apartheid.
