Libya sees rival groups clash in Janzour after security deal

Clashes emerged in Janzour between rival groups affiliated with the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity, as reported in Maghrebi Week.
The city west of Tripoli saw violent confrontations between the Joint Force and the Sixth Brigade, resulting in the closure of the coastal Zawiya highway and the deployment of military personnel in the area.
It is a blow to hopes that the signing of a recent security deal with the Special Deterrence Force would lead to stability and peace, and it applies further pressure on Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah to root out factionalised infighting, which endangers Libya’s political future.
