Libyan detention centres committing abuse towards refugees

Refugees held in Libyan detention centres experience widespread abuse including torture, arbitrary detention and being deprived basic utilities as reported in Maghrebi Week.
NGO Refugees in Libya posted a video in September highlighting the abhorrent conditions refugees and asylum seekers face, with no mattresses or blankets provided for refugees packed on a floor in a detention centre.
Libya’s position as a transit hub from Africa to Europe means it absorbs migrants and refugees fleeing conflict and poverty across Africa, and the presence of vast human trafficking networks in Libya means that exploitation of refugees is entrenched in Libyan society.
