Algeria: Athletes win big at Para-Athletics World Championship
Algeria wins big at the Para-athletics World Championships in New Delhi this week, as Algerian athletes proudly bring home Bronze and Silver medals, according to AL24 News, October 1.
The two North African athletes, Abdelhadi Boudra and Mohamed Nadjib Amchi, competed in the Men’s 5000m and Shot Put (F23) respectively.

Boudra managed to clock an impressive time of 15:12.12, just missing out on gold by a little over 4 seconds to his neutral Russian competitor Aleksandr Kostin, who himself ended the race with 15:08.97 on the clock. Abdelhadi Boudra did secure an impriessive gap of 10 seconds to his next-closest competitor from Brazil Jean Oliveira Da Silva, who crossed the finish line at 15:22.68.
“It was a tough race and not easy to secure a medal, but Abdelhadi managed his effort well,” Algerian Technical Director, Salim Boutebcha, said speaking to the media.
“This is his first major podium. Congratulations to him,” he added.
Securing Bronze for his country, Amchi opened his competition today with an strong trow of 9.56m, which allowed him to win bronze, just as he had done at the 2019 Dubai World Championships.
Amchi was only bested by Uzbekistan’s Jasur Khodjaev at 9.96m, and Athanasios Konstantinidis-Greece’s Paralympic champion-winning silver with a throw of 9.65m.
His fellow Algerian athletes, Walid Ferha and Ahmed Mehideb, managed to secure places in the top ten competitors, landing throws at 9.18m and 8.85m, granting them 5th and 6th place at the international competition.
Their victories comes on the 5th day of competition out of 8 days.
Hope remains high for the team of athletes from Algeria, with more opportunities to move up the country podium by securing more medals in the women’s shot put (F57) and the (F32) final, as well as the Men’s 100m ahead of its final on Friday.
October 2 will see the defending champion of the Women’s Shot Put (F57), Safia Djelal, will compete alongside her teammate Nassima Saifi, while Mounia Gasmi looks to secure Algeria’s place on the podium in the (F32).
Meanwhile, Mokhtar Didane and Fakhreddine Thelaidjia will take their places at the starting line ahead of the Men’s 100m (T36).
At this stage in the competition, Algeria ranks 19 alongside Spain in the medal table with 6 in total. So far, the Algerian athletes have secured 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
