Türkiye enters Niger to help fight jihadists
The jihadist threat in Niger seems all too much for the ruling junta, causing them to turn to Türkiye for help.
As seen in MaghrebiWeek on September 29th, Türkiye will send some of its elite troops made up of commandos and special forces to Mali in order to train Bamako’s army in the fight against militants. The troops have already had experience fighting extremists in the likes of Syria and Libya, however, will be restricted to only training.
This comes after Russia has spent years in Niger attempting to fight jihadists themselves, seemingly finding it difficult to quell the issue, which could explain why they have now turned to Türkiye.
