Italy and Spain send warships to safeguard Gaza aid flotilla

Italy and Spain have dispatched warships to safeguard their nationals aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which was sailing towards Gaza with humanitarian aid, as covered by Maghrebi Week on September 29th.
The flotilla, which was transporting activists from 45 countries, has faced 12 drone attacks in international waters near Greece. Italy sent the frigate Frasan for potential rescue missions, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez vowed naval support, emphasising the need to respect international law.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, however, criticised the flotilla and called for aid delivery via Cyprus. But the GSF rejected this.
