UNICEF says 680,000 children displaced by violence in Haiti
A report by UNICEF released on October 8th stated that the number of children displaced by violence in Haiti has nearly doubled to 680,000, AP has reported.
The 3.3 million children that need humanitarian assistance have been increasingly facing hunger, violence and recruitment by armed groups – who control up to 90% of Port-au-Prince and have displaced a record 1.3 million Haitians in recent years.
The displaced citizens have been forced into the 246 makeshift shelters spread across the country, 30% of which lack basic infrastructure and prevent aid workers from reaching communities safely.
