France’s Macron condemns Israeli settlement plans
French President Emmanuel Macron said on October 9th that Israeli settlement expansion plans would threaten the possibility of a Palestinian state, according to France 24 via AFP.
Macron said during a meeting in Paris that expanding settlements in the Occupied West Bank was “unacceptable and contrary to international law,” and expressed concerns that the plan “fuels tensions, violence, and instability.”
Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced plans on September 3rd which would see Israel annexing 82% of the West Bank, which would effectively make the formation of a Palestinian state practically impossible.
