Madagascar president set to respond amidst political breakdown
Madagascar’s President, Andry Rajoelina, is set to make a speech on national Madagascan television regarding the rapidly intensifying political climate of the country on 13th October, according to AP News.
Gen-Z activists were seemingly inspired by youth-led protests in other countries such as Morocco and Kenya, as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets to protest political corruption and frequent water shortages, as well as the demand for President Rajoelina’s dismissal from power. These protests came to a head on October 11th, following an alleged military coup where soldiers from an elite CAPSAT military unit joined protesters in their demands.
The President is set to respond to this recent alleged military coup, with officials from Madagascar’s government claiming that a speech will be broadcast on state television and radio at 7 pm local time (4 pm GMT).
