Former Algerian minister imprisoned for 7 years on embezzlement charges
The former Labour Minister of Algeria Tijani Hassan Haddam has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for embezzling more than $45 million from the nation’s finances, as reported in Maghrebi Week, October 13.
Mr Haddam headed the National Social Security Fund(NSSF) between 2015 and 2019, however, charges were only lodged against him after tried to purchase land under the auspices that it was to be used for the NSSF, falsely, with the property manager of the land was also being sentenced to 7 years.
The corruption also reached into other parts of the Algerian political establishment, with two former Mayors receiving 4 years, among other officials being prosecuted in President Tebboune’s corruption crackdown.
