Record defence budget for Algeria
Algeria presented its draft 2026 budget with a record $25 billion for its defence ministry, reports the New Arab on October 11th, far ahead of other North African states.
This emphasizes its tense relationship with neighbouring Morocco and Mali, as well as security concerns over its southern borders and instability in the wider region.
The budget follows the General Mobilization Law passed in June, which aims to prepare the country for crisis situations and to organise the mobilization of both the population and infrastructure.
