Algeria’s Foreign Affairs minister Ahmed Attaf had a phone exchange with his Russian counterpart Sergueï Lavrov, focusing on the Western Sahara, according to state-aligned AL24 News on October 22nd.

Russia is currently president of the UN’s Security Council until the end of October, and a decisive vote on the renewal of MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) is due on October 31st.

This follows up a meeting between both parties in September, with Algeria seeking Russia’s veto to block the Moroccan plan.
