Cameroon: President Paul Biya declares election victory

President Paul Biya has declared victory in Cameroon’s elections, according to a report by France 24 and various agencies on October 27th.

Polling by Cameroon’s Constitutional Council indicates that Biya secured 53.66% of the vote, thereby achieving an eighth term in office, which he has held since 1982.

The election has been highly contentious, with both Biya and his opposition candidate, Issa Tchiroma, initially declaring victory on October 20th.
