Victims of IRA-Gaddafi attacks could now be compensated
A report first commissioned in 2019 now reveals a scheme to compensate victims of IRA attacks during the Northern Ireland conflict that were funded by former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, as reported in Maghrebi Week on October 27th.
The report, of which an executive summary has now been released, suggests using the tax taken yearly from Gaddafi’s frozen assets in the UK to compensate victims.
American, German and French victims of Libya funded attacks have been compensated in the years since Gaddafi’s overthrow, and so this would not be an unusual move.
