Cameroon: Opposition leader faces legal action for election unrest
Cameroon’s Interior Minister, Paul Atanga Nji, accused the opposition leader, Issa Tchiroma, of inciting “violent post-election demonstrations” on October 28th, as reported by BBC News.
Nji is part of President Paul Biya’s ruling party, which was declared the winner of the elections held on October 12th. However, the election has been highly contentious as both parties had previously claimed victory on October 20th, before the results were released.
It was announced on October 27th that Biya had secured 53.66% of the vote, thereby granting his eighth consecutive term in office, which he has held since 1982.
