Early results show Ivory Coast president re-elected for fourth term
On October 27th, provisional results for the Ivory Coast’s elections unveiled that President Alassane Ouattara was elected for a fourth term, according to AP. Ouattara won 89.7% of the popular vote in an election marked by a low turnout.
Ouattara’s opponents each received less than 3% of the votes, with Jean-Louis Billon coming second and Simone Gbagbo third in the provisional results. The official results are likely to be revealed in early November.
Billion congratulated Ouattara based on the provisional results. However, Gbagbo acknowledged the win but criticised the results, stating that they were not a reflection of the Ivorians’ will, as the electoral system was “unfair” and controlled by incumbents.
