Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti devastated after Hurricane Melissa
On October 29th, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti are reportedly suffering from the aftermath of the Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, as several people died and essential infrastructure was heavily damaged or destroyed, according to the AP.
Power cuts and dangerous conditions in the region are limiting the authorities’ ability to evaluate the extent of the damages, but the destruction of schools, homes, roads, streets and churches were already reported.
Melissa’s top winds reached speeds of 295kph, making it one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes, and it wrecked havoc in Jamaica before weakening as it passed through Cuba. 25 people died and 18 are missing in Haiti, while 8 have reportedly died.
