Two French citizens freed from Iranian jail
French President Emmanuel Macron urged for two French citizens who were given prison sentences in Iran on spying charges, to be fully and “completely” freed after the two were released from prison following years behind bars in the Middle Eastern country, according to France 24 via AFP on November 4th.
The pair were arrested in May 2022 and detained by the Iranian authorities ever since. Cécile Kohler, 41, and Jacques Paris, 72, are at present, in the French Embassy of Iran.
The pair are both teachers, but Paris is retired. The two nationals are just an example of a number of westerners who have faced what some governments and activists call a manipulative method of taking hostages by Iran to attain political concessions from Western powers.
