Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered the border area with Egypt to be made a closed military zone, signalling a crackdown on weapons smuggling, Anadolu Agency reported on November 6th.

Katz stated “we are declaring war. Anyone who enters the restricted area will be harmed”, adding that any attempt to smuggle weapons would be classified as a terrorist threat.

There was no immediate response from the Egyptian authorities. Meanwhile, Israel continues its strikes on Gaza and its occupation of a large part of the enclave, despite the US-backed ceasefire deal.
