Mauritania-Senegal: WHO reports 42 deaths from Rift Valley Fever
The World Health Organization on November 5th announced that the Rift Valley Fever has led to 42 deaths, with over 400 people infected by the disease in Senegal and Mauritania during September 20th to October 30th, according to Africanews via Reuters.
The Rift Valley Fever is a virus that affects animals through mosquito bites, and a couple hundred reportedly tested positive in Mauritania, while 176 tested positive in Senegal.
The Rift Valley Fever has financially impacted farmers and herders due to death and abortion among infected livestock, and while a vaccine exists for animals, there is not one that is currently authorised for humans.
