Cameroon’s opposition leader, Issa Tchiroma, has urged his country’s authorities to release protestors arrested for participating in demonstrations over the election results, according to Africa News plus RFI on November 10th.

Tchiroma, who was the main opposition candidate against President Paul Biya, accused the government of “state gangsterism and state terrorism” in a social media video published on November 9th.

The results of the October 12th election have been highly contentious, with Tchiroma urging his supporters to participate in “ghost town” protests, where they would immobilise the economy by staying home and closing businesses for three days.
