Israeli defence minister says radio station will close down
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced on November 12th that he intends to close the publicly funded Army Radio, as reported by Al-Monitor via Reuters.
A statement from Katz described the closure as an attempt to maintain the military’s non-partisan status, and he expects Army Radio broadcasts to end by March 1st, 2026.
The radio station is editorially independent, but similarly has faced criticism from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government for allegedly being biased against institutions of the state.
