UN: 90% of Afghan families struggle financially
A UN report has found that 90% of families in Afghanistan are experiencing significant financial insecurity, according to Al-Monitor via Reuters on November 12th.
The UN Development Programme report said that Afghans overseas being forced to return to the country has caused the population to increase by 10%, with over 4.5 million Afghans returning since 2023; most have returned from Iran and Pakistan.
The report found that 90% of households were forced to miss meals, sell possessions or take on debt to survive. The World Food Program said on August 4th that the country has experienced a sharp increase in children suffering from malnutrition, with a third of the nation’s children being stunted.
