On November 13th, the British and pro-Palestinian political commentator Sami Hamdi returned to the United Kingdom after being held in US custody for two weeks, following his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on October 26th, according to CNN.

The US authorities claimed that he had overstayed his visa, which his legal team refuted. Hamdi later thanked those who supported him, while also clarifying that he had done nothing that could justify his detention.

The commentator’s detention occurred a day after his intervention at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) California’s annual gala. Hamdi and his legal team are claiming that he was arrested solely for speaking out against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
