Algeria accuses Morocco of obtaining UN vote “by force”
Algeria has reacted to the UN resolution on the Western Sahara, which recognises Moroccan sovereignty over the disputed land, by accusing Morocco of pushing its agenda “by force”, according to Maghrebi Week on November 10th.
Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf stated that the Moroccan objectives aimed to “impose the so-called autonomy plan as the sole framework” and to “eliminate the idea of self-termination for Sahrawi people.”
The UN vote, widely interpreted as a diplomatic win for Morocco, has placed Algeria in a difficult position, as it has been supporting the Polisario Front, militia group calling for the independence of the Western Sahara.
