Extremist rabbi praised in Israeli Knesset
Nissim Vaturi, the Israeli Knesset’s deputy speaker, has praised Meir Kahane, an ultranationalist rabbi, according to the Middle East Eye and agencies on November 13th.
A member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, Vaturi made the remarks during a parliamentary debate on November 12th, where he criticised fellow party members for dismissing Kahane.
He said: “Believe me, Kahane was right in many ways where we were wrong, where the people of Israel were wrong.” An American-born rabbi, Kahane was the founder of the now-banned Kach movement, which was an extremist Jewish movement.
