Mali: Jihadist groups carry out record kidnappings
Throughout 2025, jihadist groups in Mali have carried out a record number of kidnappings that targeted foreigners, according to a report by Africanews on November 14th.
Records from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) show that at least 22 to 26 foreign nationals have been kidnapped by the groups between May and October this year.
Purportedly, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) targets foreigners for ransom demands, which finances their fight against Mali’s government.
