Malian refugees flee to Ivory Coast amid jihadist violence
On November 14th, Ivory Coast has decided to reinforce security and to tighten its northern border amid important flows of Malian refugees, who are fleeing the economically devastating fuel blockade and the violence caused by Mali’s jihadist insurgency, according to Reuters.
Ivorian authorities are registering the increasing number of Malians seeking asylum in the country, who are fleeing due to the attacks of armed jihadist groups in southern Mali, which have also occurred in central Mali and led more Malian national into Mauritania.
Malians have been grappled by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadist groups’ violence and their fuel blockade, which they have used to their advantage to control larger parts of Mali after they deeply destabilised the Malian authorities and the country’s economy.
