Syrian leader urges accountability, calls for Israeli pullback
Syrian interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa vowed to ensure former president Bashar al-Assad faces justice and called for Israel to withdraw to pre-December 8th borders, Maghrebi Week reported on November 17th.
Sharaa also accused Israel of violating the 1974 disengagement agreement and carrying out more than 1,000 strikes on Syria since December 8th, warning that Israel’s actions reflect “expansionist ambitions.”
He acknowledged the complexities of dealing with Russia, which still protects Assad, but insisted Syrians have the right to pursue accountability against the previous regime.
