UN agency outraged over Sudan atrocities
The deputy executive director of the UN’s World Food Program (WFP), Carl Skau, has expressed outrage over atrocities in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, according to Africa News and agencies on November 17th.
Skau urged the international community to step up, saying that the atrocities in the North Darfur state capital “should have been prevented. And we now really need to step up efforts to prevent these catastrophes from happening elsewhere.”
El-Fasher had been under a siege imposed by the reportedly UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since May 2024, with the group announcing its capture of the city on October 26th. RSF fighters are accused of carrying out mass killings, deliberately targeting civilians in ethnically motivated violence, along with using sexual assault as a weapon of war.
