UN peacekeepers shot at in Lebanon’s south

UN peacekeepers have claimed on November 16th that Israeli forces fired on them in southern Lebanon, according to Asharq Al-Awsat and via AFP.

According to a statement released by the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), “Israel Forces fired on UNIFIL peacekeepers from a Merkava tank from near a position Israel has established in Lebanese territory.”

The UN force also said that that heavy machine gun rounds hit around five meters from their personnel. Israel has escalated military operations in southern Lebanon, including carrying out airstrikes that purportedly targeted a “weapons storage facility and underground infrastructure used by Hezbollah.”
