Algeria accused of prioritising Polisario Front over Palestine

Algeria has been accused of prioritising its support for the Polisario Front over that of the Palestinian people, according to the Moroccan government-friendly North Africa Post and agencies on November 19th.

The country faces criticism for its ongoing backing of the separatist militia, which also receives funding from Iran. Algeria voted at the UN Security Council for a resolution calling for Hamas’ disarmament, despite around 70% of Palestinians opposing this position.

Support for Hamas’ disarmament has reportedly sparked outrage among Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims. Many Palestinians view Hamas ‘ disarmament as a threat to self-determination, even if the group’s refusal to relinquish arms meant renewed Israeli attacks.
