Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was reportedly assured by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Saudi Arabia would not receive F-35 fighter jets of the most advanced technology, according to the Middle East Eye and agencies on November 21st.

Rubio told Netanyahu that the US was “committed to maintaining Israel’s qualitative edge in all areas, including Israel’s advantage regarding the supply of F-35 aircraft.”

US policy historically restricted the sale of F-35s in the Middle East to Israel, with Israel initially opposing the planned sale of the state-of-the-art jets to Saudi Arabia over concerns that its regional air superiority would be undermined.
